Her creations often are at the edge of realism and abstraction. Water color artist in her soul, she constantly searches for light and transparency, she lets medium run on her canvas or paper. Thus widening her field of intervention, she also explores the many other possibilities that other medium offer such as Golden Open acrylic paint, water color pencils and ink, not to forget all the potential that personal photos, edited by computer. Following either her inspiration and how she wants to treat the subject, she chooses different tools such as brushes, spatulas, collage and even the integration of photographs. Emotion and passion are the guides to her creations that sometimes bring the viewer into an imaginary world, but always with enough leeway and freedom to construe and filter her creation as he fancies best. This is for Diane, a very personal way to let us discover what makes her dream and quiver. Her inspiration is often colored by the actual daily occurrences and sometimes it is from her past and this also includes photos and travel souvenirs.
Artistic Approach
Diane Beauchamp Gatineau, Québec diane.beauchamp@artensoi.ca Aquarelle et techniques mixtes
Born in Montreal, Diane Beauchamp will from a very young age start travelling through the beautiful province of Quebec. Drawn by all forms of art, she will take courses in many different fields, such as dance, voice, piano, theatre and sewing. None the less, she always comes back to drawing, her favorite mode of expression. In 1973, when her mother offered her, her first box of oil painting, she will then discover her real passion. Self taught, she will slowly learn the basics of painting by observing and copying different classical works such as Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" and others. This practice confirms for her that she has really found her way, and, between 1975 and 1978, she decides to take her first courses, in Quebec, to learn drawing and oil painting. In 1979, a new chapter! As a young adult, she settles in l'Outaouais and is anxious to develop her art further; from 1982 to1984 she takes a series of classes, at the CEGEP de l'Outaouais, that will help deepen her knowledge of drawing, color and space organisation. It is, in fact, in the last part of this apprenticeship that she is sensitized to water color by her professor Rita Rodrigue, a well known water color artist of this region. As a result of this encounter, she will later contribute to the creation of l'Atelier a contre-jour that will regroup from 1984 to 1992 fifteen or so artists under the direction of Rita Rodrigue. Thus, in 1984, she will take part in its first group exhibition at the cafe"Les vieilles pierres" the "Maison Farley" in Aylmer. This group experience will also give her the opportunity to do figures and come in contact with the water color artist all as passionate as herself for this medium. In 1986, she will exhibit her water colors at the Theatre de l'Ile in Hull with another artist, Marie Dechêne. Searching for improvement, she registers, in the same year, at the Université du Quebec in Hull in the applied arts program. Then in 1989 she will participate in a second water color exhibition at the Centre d'exposition de Gatineau under the banner of A contre-jour. She will also perfect her water color skills with artists Jaqueline Gougeon and Jean-Yves Guindon. In 1990, she is found in Highwater for a water color summer workshop in the company of reknowned water color artists near the Société canadienne d'aquarelle (SCA). During the same year, she will also take some classes at the Art school of Ottawa. In 1991, she will take part in a water color and mixed media exhibition, at the Theatre de l'Ile, with Marie Dechêne and Sylvie Bergeron. In 1992, she will again exhibit her water colors and mixed media in the company of her water-color artist-friend, Marie Dechêne at the Theatre de l'Ile. After this, she will devote her time to her other life great project: her daughter Stephanie. During the following years, she offers home schooling in water color and participate in another workshop in Highwater with other water color artists from the SCA. In 2008, a breakthrough, she will explore other techniques and media that she will add to her water color. In fact during a week-end workshop offered at the Ecole d'art et de créativité given by Louis Couture, she will fall in love with a technique that she will incorporate into her acrylic and oil painting : "Sgraffit" Inspired by these new discoveries, and anxious to pursue further the many possibilities offered, she attends this school, for the last three years, on a regular basis; an activity that also allows her to share her passion with other artists.
